Thanks for your interest in taking part in research with Web Usability.
Here you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about joining our participant database, research sessions, payments and your account.
Looking for usability testing for your organisation? If you’re looking for a research partner to test a website, app or digital service with real users, explore our usability testing services.
Why join the Web Usability research participant database?
Our participants tell us they enjoy taking part in our research sessions. They’re usually easy to fit into your day, and you’ll receive a payment as a thank you for your time and honest feedback.
By taking part, you can help organisations understand how real people experience their websites, apps and digital services – and ultimately help make them easier and more inclusive to use.
What should I include in my profile?
Your profile helps us match you with relevant research projects, so tell us about yourself, your circumstances and your interests.
For example, are you a dog owner, keen cook or interested in interior design? Do you shop online regularly? What are your hobbies and interests?
The more information you provide, the easier it is for us to identify paid research opportunities that may be relevant to you.
I’m already registered. How do I check or update my profile?
You can log in to your account to review or update your details:
Login to your pariticipant account
Keeping your profile up to date helps us identify research opportunities that are relevant to you.
Can I take part if I have accessibility requirements?
Absolutely.
Inclusive research is an important part of our work and we regularly recruit disabled and neurodivergent participants to share their lived experience of using websites, apps and digital services.
When you join our database, please use the disability and accessibility fields to tell us about any access requirements you have and any assistive technology you use.
This helps us identify relevant research opportunities and make sure you have what you need to participate comfortably.
How much will I be paid?
We usually pay £50 for a one-hour remote research session, typically conducted via Zoom.
For in-person sessions, we usually pay £50 plus an additional £10 towards travel costs. These sessions are most often held at our offices in Wiltshire or in Central London.
We’ll always tell you what the payment will be before you agree to take part.
I’ve joined the participant database. What happens now?
You don’t need to do anything.
When we’re recruiting for a new research project, we’ll look for participants whose circumstances, experiences or characteristics match what that particular project requires.
If we think you could be a good match, we’ll contact you using the email address registered on your profile.
Registering doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be invited to take part, as every research project has different participant requirements.
How often can I take part?
We usually limit participation to around two or three research sessions per year.
This helps us make sure we’re hearing from a broad range of people and that participants aren’t becoming overly familiar with the research process.
Can my partner or another family member register too?
Yes. More than one person aged 18 or over from the same household can join our participant database.
However, we would normally avoid recruiting two people from the same household for the same research project, as this could result in similar feedback or influence the research findings.
Why can’t I log in to my account?
Your login uses your email address and is case sensitive.
This means you need to enter your email address using the same combination of upper- and lower-case letters you used when you originally registered.
For example, if you registered as Another@google.com, you’ll need to use the capital A when logging in.
Can I change the email address registered to my account?
Unfortunately, the email address associated with your account can’t currently be changed because it is used to identify your account in our participant database.
If you need to use a different email address, you’ll need to create a new account and ask us to delete your old one.
Email recruitment@webusability.co.uk if you need help with this.
You can update the other information in your profile by logging in to your participant account.
